Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Mixing bowls (3)
  • Whisk or fork
  • Tongs
  • Baking sheet or plate

Ingredients

  • For the Onion Rings
  • 2 large yellow onions peeled and sliced into ½-inch rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs

Instructions

Step 1: Slice the Onions

  • Peel and cut onions into ½-inch thick rounds. Separate into individual rings.
  • Tip: Keep sizes consistent for even cooking.

Step 2: Set Up Breading Station

  • Combine flour, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in one bowl. Whisk milk and egg in a second. Add panko to a third.
  • Tip: Use separate hands for wet and dry bowls to reduce mess.

Step 3: Coat the Onion Rings

  • Dip each ring in flour, then egg-milk, then press into panko.
  • Tip: Let rings sit for a minute after breading for better adhesion.

Step 4: Preheat and Arrange in Air Fryer

  • Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place rings in a single layer.
  • Tip: Work in batches for crispiness.

Step 5: Air Fry to Golden Perfection

  • Cook 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown.
  • Tip: Lightly spray with cooking oil for extra crunch.

Notes

For extra flavor, season the panko or mix in grated cheese.
Store leftovers in the fridge and reheat in the air fryer.
