Ingredients
  

For the Chicken

  • 1 ½ pounds chicken breast sliced into thin strips
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

For the Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger minced
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch for thickening

Optional Garnish

  • 2 green onions sliced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions
 

Step 1: Prepare the Chicken

  • Toss chicken strips with cornstarch until evenly coated. Shake off any excess.

Step 2: Cook the Chicken

  • Heat oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add chicken in a single layer and cook 3–4 minutes per side until golden. Remove and set aside.

Step 3: Make the Sauce

  • Whisk soy sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, water, and cornstarch in a small bowl.
  • Pour sauce into the skillet and simmer over medium heat, stirring until thickened and glossy.

Step 4: Combine and Garnish

  • Return chicken to the skillet, tossing to coat in the sauce.
  • Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

For extra spice, add red pepper flakes or chili paste to the sauce.
Serve with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
Leftovers store well in the fridge for up to 3 days.
